Madalena Alberto was born in Lisbon and moved to London when she was invited to enrol a performing arts degree at Bird College. Since graduating, she made her way up to play one of the most iconic musical theatre roles - Eva Peron in EVITA - at the Dominion Theatre.
Madalena’s most recent credits include Nina in Lillian Hellman’s play THE AUTUMN GARDEN, directed by Anthony Biggs at Jermyn Street Theatre; her tv debut as Christina Chapara, guest lead in ‘Holby City’ (BBC); Tina Mackoy in THE FIX at the Union Theatre; Grizabella in CATS at the London Palladium and she originated the role of Carrie in THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, at the Dominion Theatre.
Previously Madalena joined the cast of THE VOTE, a play by James Graham directed by Josie Rourke, at the Donmar Warehouse, alongside Judi Dench, Mark Gatiss and Catherine Tate, which aired live on More4 tv channel; and she starred as Eva Peron in EVITA at the Dominion Theatre, after its successful UK Tour.
Other theatre credits include Fantine in the 25th Anniversary Tour of LES MISERÁBLES, The Barbican and the O2 Arena; the title role in PIAF, at Leicester Curve; Lucy in JEKYLL AND HYDE and Sonia in GODSPELL at the Union Theatre; Sam in OVER THE THRESHOLD, both at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Jermyn Street Theatre; understudy Luisa in the original West End production of ZORRO THE MUSICAL at the Garrick Theatre; Carmen Diaz in FAME, UK tour; Hunyak in CHICAGO (Kuala Lumpur); Lucy in THREEPENNY OPERA at Teatro Aberto in Lisbon and ALADDIN at the Old Vic.
Madalena has also been invited to perform at several musical theatre galas in London, such as the 4th and the 2nd Tim Williams Awards at the Cochrane Theatre (2009 and 2011); the Whatsonstage Awards Concert (2011), the Giggin For Good concert at the Actors Church in Convent Garden (2011), the Mercury Musical Developments 20th Anniversary Gala Concert at West End's Novello Theatre (2012), Scott Alan's concerts at St James Studio and at the Hippodrome (2015), West End Bares (2015) and Tim Rice's anniversary concert (2015).
Alongside her career as an actress, Madalena has developed a career as a singer-songwriter and she performs solo concerts regularly. She released the EP ‘Heart condition’ with original songs, recorded and produced at Rock Box Studios and her solo album ‘Don’t Cry For Me’, released by BK Records, where she performs musical theatre classics.
Madalena made her Spanish debut in Barcelona in an intimate concert at La Cova del Drac with Alfonso Casado as Musical Director and with Nina and Daniel Anglès as special guests; and later on performed a sold-out concert at L'Auditori. She also starred in the concerts 'O Melhor dos Musicais no Coliseu' at Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, alongside John Owen-Jones, Robyn North / Sofia Escobar and Henrique Feist with Nuno Feist as Musical Director. Madalena made her London solo cabaret debut in July 2015 at the St James Studio with a sold-out concert.
